Rush Limbaugh devastated by cost of coronavirus — in dollars

“Most people” are telling right-wing conspiracy theorist Rush Limbaugh that coronavirus is being used by Democrats to end capitalism in America. He doesn’t like where this is headed.
The ailing pundit introduced his theory on the eve of April Fools’ Day after a listener on his call-in show ranted that the United States is heading in the direction of China where “they’re eating bats, for God’s sakes,” because communism has left the poor behind.
Limbaugh went a step further by suggesting the Democratic party is part of a plot to make America poor by shutting down businesses to contain a pandemic that has infected a million people worldwide in just a few months.
“You’re the only person I know who thinks it’s happening without the cooperation of the Democrat party, however,” the 69-year-old broadcaster told his caller.

He then cited “most people” as his source on that hot tip.

“Most people tell me they think the American left is the worldwide communist party now, and that they are willingly subverting this economy and destroying it, for the purposes of eliminating and wiping out capitalism," he added. “Whether that’s the design or not, that is happening. This economy is being shut down.”Limbaugh was dismissive of the pandemic in its early stages, comparing coronavirus to the common flu and spreading misinformation including the claim that COVID-19 got its name because there were 18 previous strains. The virus was identified in late 2019, hence the name.

According to Limbaugh, who reportedly makes $85 million a year and is worth $600 million, the monetary cost of fighting the pandemic doesn’t jibe with what its costing Americans.

“Are we just going to sit by and watch $22 trillion — that’s the value, that’s the sum total of the GDP, that’s the U.S. economy — are we just going to sit by here and watch it evaporate? Because that’s what we’re doing under the guise of not losing any unnecessary life ... meaning we want to try to save as many lives as we can,” he said before ending the call.

Limbaugh was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in February shortly after divulging he was being treated for advanced lung cancer. He is also a longtime cigar smoker who has expressed skepticism over the dangers of inhaling tobacco smoke.

President Trump, a Limbaugh listener who frequently cites “many people” as his source of information, has also expressed concerns about the economic impact social distancing and self-isolation are taking on the tanking economy.

"We cannot let the cure be worse than the problem itself,” he tweeted last week, before reversing course and extending the timeline before large-scale public gatherings will again be permissible.

More than 206,000 Americans have tested positive for the coronavirus, according to Johns Hopkins University. In New York City alone, it has led to the deaths of 1,139 people.

Bloomberg news estimated in early March that coronavirus could cost the global economy $2.7 trillion. That projection was made before it was declared a pandemic.

  1. rush 'pills' limbaugh is still angry because police caught him red-handed with 1000s of illegal oxycontin pills stuffed into a pillowcase.
he conveniently forgets that it was 'left-wing' judges that allowed him to escape criminal charges.
