Major anti-abortion group has knocked on 4 million doors so far in 2024 election cycle

Anti-abortion advocates at a leading national group have knocked on more than 4 million doors to reach voters in the 2024 election cycle so far.

Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America and its partner Women Speak Out PAC said Wednesday that nearly 1 million of those visits were made by student canvassers. It is part of the groups’ plan to reach 10 million voters, especially in key battleground states, they said in a statement.

SBA Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser criticized the abortion policies of Vice President Kamala Harris who has made the issue a big part of her campaign. Harris has promised to sign a bill into law “restoring reproductive freedom nationwide” if elected, according to her campaign website.

Democratic vice presidential candidate “Tim Walz and Democrats down the ballot stand in lock step with her platform, in contrast to GOP candidates who support the people’s right to set limits and truly empower women with the resources they need,” Dannenfelser said in the statement.

Former President Donald Trump said he would not sign a national abortion ban if elected, reversing a promise he made as a candidate in 2016 and one that he had stood by during his first term in the White House.

Abortion on the ballot: Voters in at least 10 states will take to the polls to determine the future of abortion access in their state.

The issue of abortion became a galvanizing issue after the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022. Most of the proposed ballot measures follow a series of restrictive trigger laws that went into effect following the Dobbs decision, along with abortion policies that were handed down by politicians or decided by state supreme courts since the decision.

Seven states have already seen a vote on abortion access since Roe v. Wade was overturned, and reproductive health advocates have been heartened by the overwhelming support for abortion access among voters.
