South Korean troops attempting to enter parliament building

Soldiers advance to the main building of the National Assembly after South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol declared martial law.

Members of South Korea’s parliament appear to have clashed with authorities outside the National Assembly members’ building, as lawmakers scramble to block the president’s introduction of martial law.

Television footage showed troops attempting to enter the main hall of the National Assembly in Seoul, Reuters reported.

Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the opposition Democratic Party, had previously ordered his lawmakers to the National Assembly as he attempts to block the decree.
