Apple CEO Tim Cook will have dinner with Trump tonight
Apple CEO Tim Cook will have dinner with President-elect Donald Trump Friday evening at his Mar-a-Lago club, a source familiar with the meeting told CNN, marking the latest in a string of tech CEOs to meet with the President-elect since his election win.
The two are expected to have dinner on the patio at Trump’s resort, the source said. The New York Times was the first to report the meeting.
Cook’s Mar-a-Lago visit comes as many tech giants are seeking to boost their relationships with Trump before he takes office in January. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg met with Trump last month, and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is expected to visit with Trump in the coming days, CNN previously reported.
Both Zuckerberg and Bezos, in addition to OpenAI’s Sam Altman, have also pledged $1 million each to Trump’s inauguration fund.
More context: Trump — who once was hostile toward tech giants and claimed they were biased against him and conservatives — has been warming to them in recent months, boasting of their private conversations and praising the companies for their support after he won the November 5 election.
Friday’s meeting between the two comes as Trump is floating new tariffs that could negatively impact Apple. It also comes as the company faces criticism from European regulators regarding its App Store policies.
