Trump and Gov. Kemp receive briefing on Hurricane Helene impact in Georgia

Former President Donald Trump shakes hands with Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp at a temporary relief shelter as he visits areas impacted by Hurricane Helene on Friday, October 4, in Evans, Georgia.

Former President Donald Trump on Friday was briefed on the impact of Hurricane Helene in Georgia.

He was joined by GOP Gov. Brian Kemp. It was their first face-to-face meeting since their relationship frayed around the 2020 presidential election. Kemp clashed with the former president after he refused to call a special legislative session to help Trump as he sought overturn the 2020 presidential election results in Georgia.

Trump thanked the Georgia governor for his work amid the hurricane devastation.

“I want to thank the governor. The governor is working hard. I know that for a fact and very effectively. So, I want to thank and be here with everyone,” Trump said to Kemp before shaking hands.

“I will tell you Mr. President, this storm to put into perspective, is Georgia Power’s worst storm they’ve ever dealt with,” Kemp responded.

Trump also asked about communication in the state and Kemp gave him an update, telling the former president “it’s getting better.”

The briefing took place at the Emergency Operations Center for Columbia County.
