Israel says it killed Hezbollah commander, as military intensifies attacks in Lebanon
The Israeli military announced on Friday that it killed a commander in the Hezbollah Radwan Forces’ anti-tank missile unit, in the Lebanese area of Meiss El Jabal, as Israel’s ground incursion in the country’s south rages on.
In a statement, the Israeli military said Araeb el Shoga “was responsible for numerous anti-tank missile attacks on the area of Ramot Naftali in northern Israel.”
Israeli forces “also identified and struck a launcher that was ready to fire toward Israeli territory and soldiers” and “struck Hezbollah weapons storage facilities,” the military added. CNN cannot independently verify the statement.
Elsewhere in Lebanon: Israeli forces also intensified an aerial campaign in the Lebanese capital late Thursday, killing at least 22 people and wounding at least 117 others, according to Lebanon’s health ministry.
The strikes in the densely populated upper Basta neighborhood marked the single deadliest Israeli attack in central Beirut since Israel’s 34-day-war in 2006, which killed 1,100 people in Lebanon.
