GRAND TOURER Best-selling car brand reveals return of iconic fast estate 14 years after it was discontinued – with 189mph top speed
BMW have revealed the return of the iconic M5 Touring estate - which was originally discontinued in 2010 with the V10-engined ‘E61’.
The stunning super wagon is set for an early 2025 release and will boast a V8-engined plug-in hybrid motor - capable of reaching 189 mph.
The M5 is perhaps one of BMW's most mythical performance variants, having existed on and off since 1984.
While most known for its saloon form, an estate - or 'wagon' version - has existed in the past from 1992 to 1995, and again from 2006 to 2010.
First unveiled during the Monterey Car Week in California, the M5 Touring joins another BMW super wagon - M3 Touring - which was unveiled last year.
This means for the first time, the German marque will offer two super estates.
While boasting plenty of power at 717 bhp with a 0-62 mph acceleration of 3.6 seconds, the M5 Touring also offers practicality with an eye-watering 1630 litres of seats-down boot space.
Inside there's the M5-standard racing bucket seats, a stylish carbon fibre trim and BMW’s Curved Display powered by the iDrive system.
Its supercar performance also comes with supercar-esque pricing, which starts at £112,500 - around £1,000 more than the standard M5.
It will go up against other fast estates on the market at the moment, notably its German rivals Audi, with the twin-turbocharged RS6 Avant Performance priced at £116,120, and Mercedes-AMG's £99,280 C63 S E Performance.Last month, we got behind the wheel of BMW's i5 Touring, which starts at £69,945.
The EV fast estate is described as a "tour de force in the tech department" and includes hands-free motorway lane-changingThis comes as Wheeler Dealers star Mike Brewer showed off a BMW that was "the most expensive car ever bought in Wheeler Dealers' history."
And a huge collection of cars hidden away in a secret London lock up has been discovered.
