A TEACHER accused of having sex with two pupils is a "gaslighter" who painted herself as the victim, a court heard today.

Rebecca Joynes, 30, allegedly embarked on sexual relationships with two students - including one, Boy B, that she had a baby with.

The maths teacher was on bail at the time after twice having sex with a 15-year-old pupil known as Boy A, it is said.

Joynes was today accused of a "naked attempt to garner sympathy" by visibly tucking a baby's bonnet belonging to the daughter she had with one of the teens into her trousers.

Joe Allman, prosecuting, told Manchester Crown Court in his closing speech: "She's aware of the optics here. She's not stupid.

"Is Miss Joynes, more shrewd than she lets on?"The prosecutor also shot down Joynes' claims she had been gaslit during her relationship with Boy B.

He asked the jury: "Who is being gaslit, and who is doing the gaslighting?

"Is what is going on here, is: she hopes you will treat her very differently because she is a woman and not a man, and you will see this case differently because she's a woman and not a man?"

Mr Allman queried whether the two boys, named only as Boy A and Boy B, would have been disparaged in the same way in an attempt to discredit them if they were two girls of similar age".He said had "pretty" Rebecca Joynes instead been Robert Joynes and the complainants girls, it would not have been suggested they were "up for it".

The prosecutor added: "You would not have one shred of sympathy for Robert. This thought experiment drags Miss Joynes' defence into the light."

He also suggested Joynes would like jurors to forget she is a responsible, mature adult teacher and the boys were teen school pupils.

"It has the effect of warping the picture, so she almost becomes the victim and the boys the perpetrators", Mr Allman added.

In her evidence yesterday, Joynes told how she felt lonely and "liked" the attention following a break up.

But she denied having a "powerful" sexual attraction to 15-year-old boys.

She also told jurors she ruined her "dream job" with stupid "mistakes" but claimed her sexual relationship with Boy B only began after he had turned 16 and they had both left the school.

Joynes was presented with a note she had allegedly written to him where she described him as "perfect".

She wrote: “I know we are struggling right now and are both extremely stressed.

"But I really hope we can work something out to keep this going for a while longer.

"Every inch of you is perfect and you are all I ever dream about."

The relationship began when Joynes sent a photo of her bum while wearing a pair of knickers after they first began speaking on Snapchat, the court heard.

He previously told jurors: "As a 16-year-old lad I thought I was in there."

The boy claimed he asked Joynes if they could meet up and ended up going round to her flat in Salford.

He said it was "quite awkward at first" as she was double his age but they then shared a kiss.

The boy said Joynes straddled and kissed him before taking his virginity.

He alleges they later went on to have sex at least 30 times in "numerous different places".

The boy claimed Joynes told him it was “nearly impossible” for her to get pregnant because she had polycystic ovary syndrome.

But he recalled how the teacher broke the news to him on "date night".

He said she had ordered pizza and scattered rose petals and an Ann Summers scratchcard of sexual activities around her flat.

She then presented him with a babygrow that said "I love my daddy to the moon and back".

Boy B told the court he reacted by saying: “What the f**k?”

He also told jurors she tried to end the relationship after believing Joynes was "emotionally abusing" him.

The teen added: "I would try and end it and would say 'you are a f***ing weirdo, you're a nonce basically, go find someone your own age'."

Joynes is accused of first grooming Boy A, who was then 15, by taking him shopping at Selfridges.

She then allegedly bought him a £345 Gucci belt before driving him to her home in her white Audi where they had sex twice.

He claimed Joynes had laughed and told him to "shut up" when he mentioned his age to her.

A police investigation was launched in October 2021 and she was subsequently arrested and bailed on the condition she did not contact any child under 18.Joynes denies two counts of sexual activity with Boy A, two counts of sexual activity with Boy B and two counts of sexual activity with Boy B while being a person in a position of trust.

The trial continues.
