HORRIFIC FIND Woman & man charged with ‘murder’ of Sarah Mayhew, 38, whose remains were discovered in Croydon park

A WOMAN and a man have been charged with the alleged murder of Sarah Mayhew after her remains were discovered in a Croydon park.

Gemma Saundercock, 48, and Steve Samson, 44, were arrested on Saturday by cops probing the horrific find.

Human remains were found in Rowdown Fields on the outskirts of Croydon last Tuesday and later identified as 38-year-old Sarah's body.

Now Saundercock and Samson have been charged with murder and the prevention of lawful and decent burial of a body.

The pair, from Croydon and Sutton respectively, will appear in custody at Bromley Magistrates’ Court today.

Sarah's family have been informed of the charges and are being supported by specialist cops.Samson has also been charged with three counts of making indecent images of a child.

These charges are unconnected with the murder investigation at this stage, Scotland Yard said.

Chief Superintendent Andy Brittain said: "I would like to thank the detectives and officers across the Met.

"Their expertise continues to enable this speedy and thorough investigation."The local community has also offered much support during this time, as officers carried out this vital work.

The Croydon policing chief added: "We are very appreciative of their efforts.

"My sincere condolences are with Sarah’s family, and we will continue to support them as the investigation progresses."
