WBB Hosts Bucknell Thursday in Final Non-Conference Game

 

Golden Eagles wrap up three-game homestand

MILWAUKEE – The No. 18/18 Marquette women's basketball team hosts Bucknell Thursday, Dec. 17 in the non-conference finale. Tipoff from the Al McGuire Center is at 12 p.m. CT.

The Golden Eagles (11-0, 1-0 BIG EAST) are coming off a 99-91 win over App State on Sunday. Marquette seniors Jordan King and Liza Karlen combined for 53 points. Frannie Hottinger had her team-leading third double-double of the season with 14 points and a career-high 21 rebounds.

The game will be broadcast on FloSports with Bob Brainerd on the call.

SCOUTING THE BISON
• Bucknell is coming off a 64-44 win over Merrimack on Sunday.
• Sophomore Emma Theodorsson scored 22 points and grabbed a season-high 13 rebounds in the win.
• The Bison have played one ranked opponent so far this season, losing on the road to then No. 15 Louisville, 77-44, on Nov. 19.
• Bucknell was picked to finish sixth in the Patriot League preseason poll.

ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST BUCKNELL
• Thursday's matchup will be the first meeting all-time between Marquette and Bucknell.
• Last meeting with a Patriot League opponent was last season against Holy Cross. Marquette won 77-55 at home on Nov. 11, 2022.
• MU is 6-1 all-time vs current Patriot League teams.

KARLEN AP NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
• Liza Karlen was named AP National Player of the Week on Tuesday after her performances in wins over then No. 20 Creighton and App State.
• The senior averaged 24.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2.5 blocks last week while shooting 50 percent from the field (18-of-36) in wins over then No. 20 Creighton and App State.
• Karlen is the first from the BIG EAST this season to earn the AP national weekly honor, which was established this season.
• This marked the third national honor for Karlen this season, who has been named a U.S. Basketball Writers Association player of the week twice, including this season.

HARE TOPS IN THE NATION FROM THREE
• Mackenzie Hare is first in the nation in 3-point percentage (58.8) and fourth in treys per game (3.6).
• She has hit at least five threes in 5-of-11 games.
• The Naperville, Illinois native is first in the BIG EAST in 3-pointers made with 40 for the season, good for fourth in the nation.

CAREER NIGHT ON THE GLASS FOR FRANNIE
• Frannie Hottinger had her team-leading third double-double of the season with 14 points and a career-high 21 rebounds against App State.
• 12 points and 14 of her 21 rebounds came in the second half, including five offensive.
• It was her 25th double-double of her career.
• Hottinger is third in the BIG EAST in rebounding, averaing 8.8 per contest.

SEASON-HIGH 29 FOR KING
• Jordan King scored a season-high 29 points against App State, her second 20-point game of the season and 16th of her career.
• King hit a career-high six 3-pointers and had 20 points in the first half, the most points by an MU player in a half this season.

MOVING THE BALL
• Marquette is first in the BIG EAST and eighth in the nation in assists per game (21.2).
• The Golden Eagles have recorded 20-or-more assists in 7-of-11 games this season. MU hit that mark eight times all of last season.

HOT SHOOTING START
• Marquette is first in the BIG EAST and sixth in the nation in shooting percentage (50.8 percent).
• MU has now shot 50-percent-or-better in 8-of-11 games this season.
