Julia Roberts Reveals Why She Feels ‘Kinship’ With Patrick Mahomes

Julia Roberts recently revealed that she felt a “kinship” with Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes after learning about the NFL superstar’s off-the-field work.

During the 56-year-old actress’ interview on SiriusXM’s “The Jess Cagle Show,” Roberts discussed her newfound “respect” for Mahomes after watching the Netflix docuseries “Quarterback.”

“I’m watching a lot of documentary things,” Roberts said. “I mean, I love documentaries, but I watched this documentary series, ‘Quarterback.’ It has changed my life, I think. Because I’m a big football fan.”

“But this has given me an insight, like I have so much respect right now for Patrick Mahomes, I don’t know what to do with it,” she added. “There’s really not a place for me to put it on a daily basis.”

“The quarterback, you think like, ‘Oh, he shows up and throws the ball around.’ I mean, that’s what I thought. That’s wrong,” Roberts continued. “I felt a kinship because I feel like my homework when I’m working it never ends. There’s always some other elements, some other thing to learn, to figure out, to get ready for to, you know, whatever it is, and so I kind of felt like I understand you, Patrick Mahomes.”

The “Pretty Woman” star admitted she’s first and foremost a San Francisco 49ers fan, but said the Chiefs are right behind them.

The eight-episode docuseries from NFL Films highlights what went on behind the scenes during the 2022 season for three NFL quarterbacks: Mahomes, Minnesota Vikings’ Kirk Cousins, and the then-Atlanta Falcons QB Marcus Mariota.

“Look — we’ve seen quarterbacks mic’d up for a game. We’ve certainly seen training camp,” Hall of Fame quarterback and ‘Quarterback’ Executive Producer Peyton Manning told Netflix. “But we’ve never followed a quarterback throughout the entire season to see what he does Sunday night after a big win, after a brutal loss on a last-second field goal — what they do on Mondays and Tuesdays on their off days.”

“Are they hanging out? Are they playing golf? Are they in the weight room and watching film and grinding for that next game?” he added. “Which is the answer, by the way, not to give it away. There is no golf in the season.”
