IDF says 20 soldiers killed so far by friendly fire, accidents: report

Data released by the Israel Defense Forces on Tuesday shows that of the 105 soldiers killed so far during the military campaign against Hamas in the Gaza Strip, 20 were killed in friendly-fire incidents and other accidents, the Times of Israel is reporting. 

The newspaper, citing the data, says 13 soldiers were killed due to mistaken identification during airstrikes, tank shelling and gunfire. 

It reported that one soldier was killed by gunfire not intended for them, while another two died because of accidental misfires. 

Two soldiers also died in accidents involving military vehicles running over troops, while two others were killed by shrapnel including from explosives set off by the Israeli military, according to the Times of Israel.
