The Simpsons' Treehouse of Horror Clip Lists 50 Reasons Not to Re-Elect Trump

In an exclusive clip, The Simpsons take on their most terrifying Treehouse of Horror foes yet: Donald Trump and the 2020 presidential election.

The Simpsons revealed the cold open for this year's "Treehouse of Horror" Halloween special, taking on the scariest topic of 2020: the presidential election.
The clip, originally shared by Variety, shows Homer rushing into the voting booth at the last minute and realizing he doesn't know who he wants to vote for in the presidential election. Lisa enters, wearing her mask, and schools Homer by asking, "by all that's decent, how could you forget everything that's happened over the last four years?" As Homer thinks about President Trump, 50 reasons not to re-elect him scroll across the screen. Though it is not shown who Homer picks for president, his ballot features several humorous candidates, including Amazon Alexa for governor.

This is far from the first time that The Simpsons has poked fun at Donald Trump. From the moment his candidacy was announced back in 2015, the sitcom has lampooned Trump for his campaign strategies, his twitter rants and his actions as president. However, The Simpsons also teased Trump back when he was simply a businessman and television personality. In 2000's "Bart to the Future," the series had a flash-forward depicting Lisa inheriting the presidency from Trump, whose policies left the United States government broke. Of the episode, writer Dan Greaney said it was less of a prediction and more of "a warning to America."

In addition to the satire of the election, "Treehouse of Horror XXXI" will also feature parodies of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Pixar. Additionally, one part of the Halloween special will focus on Lisa's ninth birthday, an uncommon occurrence given that the characters have remained the same age since the show's first season.

"Treehouse of Horror XXXI" will air on Oct. 18 on Fox.
