Winter Weather Advisories have been issued in the Northeast and New England as the region braces for a wintry mess of cold rain, snow and ice that will sweep across the region on Thursday.
The systems impacting areas from the Midwest to the Northeast have been quick-hitting as they scooted along the jet stream from west to east.

The combination of warm air from the south and cold air in the north creates a situation where there will be concerns about icing.
The greatest risk of icing in upstate New York and parts of New England will be on Thursday before temperatures rise above freezing.

This will not be a major icing event, but any amount of ice can lead to issues, especially on untreated roads or walkways.
Less than 0.10 inches of ice is expected across most areas from upstate New York through New England.
However, there is a risk that some areas could see more than 0.10 inches of ice in the higher elevations of the Adirondacks in New York and the Green Mountains in Vermont. There's also a risk of more icing in the Berkshires in western Massachusetts.

There won't be much snow accumulation with this fast-moving storm system, but a few inches are possible, especially in the higher elevations.
Between 3 and 5 inches of snow could fall from northern portions of New York state into Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.
