Israel urges Gaza civilians to evacuate with millions of leaflets, phone calls, texts

Israel is working to communicate evacuation orders to millions of Palestinians amid the country's counter-offensive against Hamas.

Israeli President Isaac Herzog claimed Friday that the country has dropped more than 1 million leaflets, sent 6 million text messages and made 4 million phone calls to Palestinian civilians in Gaza urging them to evacuate.

Violence against non-combatants in Gaza and collateral damage caused by anti-terrorist weapons strikes have been a global concern since Israel launched its counter-offensive against Hamas militants.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and US Ambassador to Israel Jack Lew are in Israel this week to push for humanitarian pauses to the conflict.

Blinken told the press before his departure from Washington DC that protecting civilians, coordinating the safe return of hostages taken by Hamas, and preventing a wider regional conflict were among his highest priorities.
