The United Nations Security Council will hold an emergency meeting Monday regarding Israel’s ground invasion of Gaza, diplomatic sources confirmed.

CNN saw text of the request from the United Arab Emirates for the council to be briefed by the under-secretary-general for humanitarian affairs and emergency relief coordinator, and an official from the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East.

The Security Council agenda for Monday has a meeting scheduled in the afternoon for “The situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question.”

It is unclear if this is separate to the emergency meeting.

The emergency meeting comes after 120 countries voted for a United Nations resolution on Friday, introduced by Jordan, that called for a “sustained humanitarian truce” in Gaza. The United States was one of 14 countries that voted against the resolution, with 45 countries abstaining.

On Saturday, the UAE’s foreign ministry condemned Israel’s ground operations in Gaza and called for an immediate ceasefire, according to UAE state news agency WAM.
