A FIRE has erupted at a Harvester - with giant flames ripping through the restaurant.

Firefighters are battling the blaze at the Harvester branch in Littlehampton, West Sussex.

The roof of the restaurant has been ravaged by the fire, with at least ten fire engines and an aerial ladder at the scene.

Residents in Littlehampton have been ordered to stay away and to keep their doors and windows shut.

A clip posted on Twitter at 9.44am showed huge flames and black smoke billowing from the gutted roof of the Harvester.

In another video shared on the platform, a booming explosion could be heard from the restaurant as horrified locals looked on.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: "We are dealing with a large fire at Coastguard Road, Littlehampton.

"Ten fire engines and an aerial ladder platform are currently at the scene.

"We would ask that all residents avoid the area and keep doors and windows shut as there is a large smoke plume."

It is currently unknown what caused the fire.
