A baby boy is dead after a car hit a horse-drawn buggy from behind in South Central Missouri, law enforcement confirmed Thursday.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported the crash took place early Tuesday evening on Highway C, two miles north of Seymour, a small city about 35 miles east of downtown Springfield.

According to Sgt. Michael McClure, the wreck happened when a southbound vehicle attempted to pass a horse-drawn buggy occupied by two adults and a child, going the same direction.
