Woman found dead inside car at Yellowstone National Park; nearby man arrested, officials say

A woman's dead body was found inside a car at Yellowstone National Park and a man standing outside the vehicle was arrested, park officials said.

Yellowstone rangers responded to an incident on Craig Pass, about 3 miles south of Old Faithful, on Saturday when they found a vehicle driven into a snowbank with a man standing outside it. Upon further investigation, rangers found a deceased woman inside the car, the National Park Service said in a news release.

“Investigators are determining what led to the female’s death and attempting to complete next-of-kin notifications,” the NPS said in the release.

Officials arrested the man for drug possession and other traffic-related charges, NPS said. The release did not identify the man.

The NPS is leading the investigation with support from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, United States Attorney’s Office and Teton County Coroner’s Office.

Officials closed the road between Old Faithful and West Thumb for about 24 hours while the scene was processed. The road was reopened on Sunday.
