Perverted GP makes a VERY bizarre confession after claiming he was performing 'energy healing with his penis' when he drugged and sexually assaulted women as young as 16 at a sleep clinic

  • A doctor has been jailed for six years after sexually assaulting four patients
  • One of his victims at the sleep clinic where he worked was a 16-year-old girl
  • CCTV captured many of the assaults but the GP claimed it was 'penis healing'
  • The judge ruled he probably shouldn't practice medicine in this country again

A GP who told police it's not a 'huge problem' to masturbate during a medical procedure has been jailed for six years after claiming he was performing 'tantric healing'.

Ali Khorami, 50, indecently assaulted five women including a 16-year girl, when he worked as overnight sleep technician at the Woolcock Clinic in Sydney's Glebe in 2018.

In a police interview, an investigator asked the Iranian national whether it was appropriate for a doctor to masturbate in front of vulnerable patients.

'It's not hurting the patient, the patient is sleeping… I don't know about the law, but my idea is that it's not making a huge problem,' he told detectives.

'Because masturbation is not illegal.'

The NSW District Court heard the father-of-two groped the woman and placed his penis on their hands and feet for minutes at a time while they were under observation as part of a sleep study, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.

To carry out his depraved crimes, the perverted doctor claimed the woman had low blood pressure which required him to enter their rooms throughout the night, the court heard.

He was convicted of 22 offences including drugging one of the women with temazepam in her drink.

Although Khorami took steps to turn off CCTV monitors, many of the assaults were captured in full view of the cameras.

But in an utterly bizarre attempt to justify his sex crimes at trial, Khorami gave evidence claiming the footage captured him performing tantric 'penis healing' on the patients.

He described the act of rubbing his penis as 'non-sexual' and 'different from masturbation'.

'[If] patient is male and healer is female, female healer should transfer with hand to patient's penis,' he told the court.

Khorami said the human body has seven 'chakras' that can transfer energy and one of them is located in the penis.

'They trust my medical knowledge and I always use my medical knowledge to help people,' he told police after his arrest.

Judge Leonie Flannery said he found it troubling that Khorami continues to maintain he was engaging in legitimate medical practice.

'He will almost certainly never practise medicine in this country again,' he ruled.

The strange tantric defence was not brought up during his three-hour interview with police after he was taken into custody.

Khorami claimed he did not mention it to officers because he feared the information could be relayed back to his native country of Iran, leaving him vulnerable to assassination by the fundamentalist government.

He tried to justify the abuse during the interview with detectives by claiming the victims were not 'totally asleep' and 'maybe' asked him to do it.

'So are you saying that that 17-year-old girl asked you to put your penis into her hand when you checked her blood pressure?' a female detective asked.

Khorami said he could not remember but added that maybe she was okay with it because she didn't change positions.

'I'm not telling you this is the right thing to do... but this, I don't accept as abuse because she was not 10 years old, she was 17,' he said.

During proceedings last month, one of the victims told the court she was left traumatised by the abuse, the ABC reported.

'I felt like my world was imploding … I became demotivated, depressed and suicidal,' the 30-year-old told the court via videolink from overseas.

'No woman deserves to go through what you put us through … for some time I lost everything,' she said.

The clinic where he worked has now implemented a number of 'additional patient security measures' to make sure an incident like this never happens again.

'The Woolcock Clinic assisted NSW Police at all stages of its investigation and throughout the court process. We acknowledge this has been a distressing time for all involved,' they said.

Khorami will be eligible for parole in three years and nine months.
