Chinese President Xi Jinping wished Donald and Melania Trump a 'fast recovery' today after their coronavirus diagnoses.

President Trump tweeted an upbeat message from hospital last night where he is being treated for coronavirus with an experimental antibody treatment after reports claimed that he was having 'trouble breathing'.

And today Chinese state TV reported Mr Jinping said: 'My wife, Peng Liyuan, and I express our sympathies to you and your wife and wish you a fast recovery.'

Mr Jinping's message of support comes after Hu Xijin, the editor-in-chief of the Global Times, a mouthpiece of Jinping's Communist Party, said President Trump and his wife 'have paid the price for his gamble to play down the COVID-19'.

Chinese-US relations have tumbled to their lowest point in decades amid disputes over trade, technology, security, Beijing's tightening of control over Hong Kong and complaints about abuses in China's Muslim northwestern region of Xinjiang.

Trump has blamed China, where the coronavirus outbreak began in December, of mishandling the outbreak and allowing it to spread.

In March, the President insisted he had a 'good relationship with China and with President Xi' but that the Covid pandemic had got out of control.

Today, the President's physician said that he is 'doing well' as he recovers from the virus in Walter Reed hospital and is undergoing a range of treatments including a polyclonal antibody cocktail made by Regeneron that is not available to the public.

The President is also taking remdesivir - an ebola drug that has already been shown to work against the virus - and vitamin D.

He is also taking zinc, vitamin D, famotidine (the generic name for Pepcid AC), melatonin and daily aspirin.

The President tweeted 'Going welI, I think! Thank you to all. LOVE!!!' after a CNN report quoted an unnamed presidential adviser claiming that there is 'reason for concern' about his condition and that the president was having 'trouble breathing' following his positive coronavirus test.

'This is serious,' the source told CNN, stating that Trump was 'very tired, very fatigued' and claimed that his condition was much more severe than First Lady Melania Trump's.

They confirmed he is 'fatigued', but that his condition is not deteriorating and the public should not be alarmed.

The president, 74, gave a ‘thumbs up’ as he walked from the White House to Marine One to be airlifted to hospital on Friday evening.

He waved to reporters on the South Lawn but didn’t speak. He walked on his own with no help.

Donald Trump's 'nuclear football', the briefcase which could trigger doomsday, was loaded onto Marine One alongside the President.

Before travelling to hospital, Trump had released an 18 second video message to the nation, saying he was being hospitalized but 'I think I'm doing very well.'

'We're going to make sure that things work out,' he said, adding that the first lady was also 'doing very well'.

A video was tweeted from President Trump's account as he was transported to the hospital. In the 18-second clip, Trump thanked the American public for their support after he announced his coronavirus diagnosis on Friday morning

Yesterday, Mr Xijn claimed Trump's diagnosis revealed the severity of the coronavirus outbreak in the US and would sabotage Trump's upcoming re-election.

He said President Trump and the First Lady are paying for the price for downplaying the coronavirus pandemic.

He wrote in a Tweet yesterday: 'President Trump and the first lady have paid the price for his gamble to play down the COVID-19.

'The news shows the severity of the US' pandemic situation.

'It will impose a negative impact on the image of Trump and the US, and may also negatively affect his reelection.'
