Police launch murder probes after FIVE women died in same Yorkshire town over the past seven weeks

• Amanda Sedgwick, Michelle Morris and Amy-Leanne Stringfellow found dead
• Two other unnamed women were also found allegedly murdered in Doncaster 
• Alleged five murders make up almost a quarter of murders in entire county 

Police have launched murder probes after five women were found dead in Doncaster in the last seven weeks. 

Amanda Sedgwick, Michelle Morris, Amy-Leanne Stringfellow and two unnamed women have been found killed in the South Yorkshire town. 

While police aren't looking for a serial killer and don't think the deaths are connected, it is an unusually high number of murders for the town. 

There were 23 murders across the entire county, which has a population of 310,542.

These latest five alleged murders make up almost a quarter of that number, despite Doncaster town having a population of just 109,805. 

Amanda Sedgwick, 49, was found dead in a home in Askern on May 19. Police arrested a 48-year-old man on suspicion of her murder but later released him. Five days later Michelle Morris, 52, was found after suffering a fatal head injury in Stainforth. She died in hospital three days later.  

Amy-Leanne Stringfellow, 26, was found dead in a house in Balby on June 5. 

Her boyfriend, Terence Papworth, 45, was accused of murdering her when he went to see her during lockdown.

Three days later, the body of an unnamed 28-year-old woman was found in a home in Mexborough. 

Two men have been arrested over her death. 

Another unnamed woman was found unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene on Saturday. 

Police have arrested a 38-year-old man on suspicion of her murder.   

South Yorkshire, which is made up of Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield, saw 23 homicides in 2019, according to the Office for National Statistics.  

South Yorkshire Police said they could not comment on the deaths as proceedings in the cases are still active.
