Cops bust two in South Carolina in Bronx rundown of NYPD sergeant

Two men responsible for the hit and run attack of an NYPD sergeant in the Bronx were arrested Friday morning in South Carolina, authorities said.

Calife Hough, 44, was arrested in the parking lot of a WalMart in Georgetown County, S.C., and Jason Velasquez, 21, was arrested a short time later in a nearby motel, said Georgetown County authorities in a Facebook post.

Hough and Velasquez fled to South Carolina after they slammed a vehicle into an NYPD sergeant who was responding to a report of 20 to 30 people coming out of a pawn shop in Mt. Eden around 12:40 a.m. Tuesday, officials said.

The sergeant and another officer were crossing E. 170th St. at Walton Ave. when a black sedan barreled through the intersection and hit the sergeant, sending him flying.

The white-shirted officer with the sergeant dodged the speeding car, and was seen on video rushing to the aid of his superior, who was sprawled on the street.

Police on scene took the sergeant to Lincoln Hospital, where he was reported in stable condition.

Bronx residents Hough and Valasquez both have ties to Georgetown, a city on the South Carolina coast about 60 miles southwest of Charleston, local authorities said.

The Sheriff’s office were joined by Georgetown City Police Department investigators, United States Marshals Office deputies and the NYPD to search for the men.

Both men were taken to the Georgetown County jail and are awaiting extradition back to New York.

Hough and Valasquez have not yet been charged, a NYPD spokesperson said Friday night.

The Detectives’ Endowment Association praised the arrest on Twitter. “You can run, but you can’t hide!” the DEA said in a tweet, which included harrowing video of the crash.
