'It was quite a little windfall,' Mr Bernard told 7News
'Whether you're a company director or a mum and dad at home you can find money which belongs to you,' NSW Finance Minister Damien Tudehope said.
'People have changed jobs, changed states, changed circumstances, maybe got married and forgotten about an account.'
Mr Tudehope said Australians simply need to head to the NSW Revenue website to see if they have any money waiting for them to be claimed.
'Jump onto the website and fill in your name and address details and if you've got something it just pops up, it takes literally five seconds and the paperwork is a synch,' Mr Bernard said.
After entering your name, the website will tell you if you are owed any cash. Then all users need to do is verify they are the rightful owner.
