At least 100 workers at three crawfish farms in Louisiana have tested positive for coronavirus, according to health officials.
The farms have not been identified, but are in the Acadiana region, according to the state Department of Health.
“There was one outbreak in a group of workers who work in a crawfish farm and live, I think, in dormitory like settings,” Assistant Secretary of Health Alex Billioux said during Edwards’ coronavirus news conference Monday. “That led to broader testing.”
At least some of the workers are migrants, Billioux said.

Louisiana Department of Health spokeswoman Aly Neel told the Advocate that health officials are working with the crawfish farms to "prevent further spread of this illness and to ensure workers understand where and when to be tested.”

The outbreak was caught as Louisiana expands testing to asymptomatic people and large congregations like prisons and nursing homes.

More than 35,000 people in Louisiana have tested positive for coronavirus so far. Of those, about 2,450 have died.
