An upstate New York man was driving his jeep in Mexico with his girlfriend when they were both shot and killed in a hail of bullets, authorities said.
Pat Landers, 32, from Baldwinsville, was living south of the border with Karla Baca, his friend Dave LaBarge told Syracuse.com. The two had been dating for several months after meeting in Texas.
Landers had been in Mexico for the last few weeks and he and Baca, who lived in Mexico, were quarantining together in Juarez, LaBarge told the news outlet.
Baca was a physical education teacher, according to her Facebook page. She also appeared to do some modeling.

Police said the couple was in Landers’ black jeep on Monday when someone opened fire on the vehicle as it drove down Lopez Mateos Ave. in Juarez, KTSM 9 News reported. Video from the scene shows the Jeep with multiple bullet holes through the windshield. The vehicle had New York plates.
At least 20 bullets were fired into the vehicle, authorities said. No arrests have been made.
Landers leaves behind one young son.
"I want people to know he was a great father and loved his son Cameron,” Adam Howe told Spectrum News. “He loved him more than anything in the world.”
