HBO, cast tell Trump to stop using 'Game of Thrones'-inspired illustration in tweet: 'How do you say trademark misuse in Dothraki?'
President Trump may be a fan of Game of Thrones — or at least a tag line it’s used in the past — but the people behind it are not fans of him.
Trump referenced the Emmy-winning HBO show in a tweet Friday, posting a twist on a tag line the show is known for using: “Winter is coming.” He kept the font in the style used to market the show and inserted his own photo.

The sanctions Trump spoke of were lifted as part of a nuclear deal with Iran that President Barack Obama agreed to in 2015. Trump has said that he will reinstate them on Monday, hours before the midterm elections.
HBO swiftly responded to Trump’s tweet, and it wasn’t to thank him.
“We were not aware of this messaging and would prefer our trademark not be misappropriated for political purposes,” the network said in a statement.
It also turned to Trump’s favorite communication tool to not so subtly reprimand him for his tweet.

The GoT-inspired message Trump sent to his 55.6 million Twitter followers grabbed the attention of George R.R. Martin, who wrote the books GoT is based upon, as well.

The “Winter is coming” line has inspired plenty of memes in the past, but they’re usually not political. The Hollywood Reporter noted that Trump’s fellow Republican Sen. Marco Rubio did use it when he announced that he was running for president in 2015.
