Carrie Underwood Shared Her First Selfie Since Getting 40 Stitches in Her Face

Carrie Underwood still isn't quite ready to go fully bare-faced after slipping on some ice outside her Tennessee home and requiring more than 40 stitches in her face, but this past weekend, she did upload her first selfie since sharing the extent of her injuries with her fans. On Saturday, the country singer posted a photo of herself and husband Mike Fisher staring solemnly at the camera while holding red X's over their mouths, with Underwood's on a piece of paper and Fisher's painted on the back of his hand. "Together, we're in it to end it! Help us shine a light on modern day slavery," she captioned the Instagram pic, tagging the End It movement against human trafficking.

Fans were supportive of both the important cause and Underwood's reluctance to fully show off her scars. "Carrie your [sic] beautiful no matter what. You are a champion. No scar will ever change that," one person commented on the photo. "Carrie Underwood your beauty within is your best asset," another added.

Though she announced that she had fallen outside her house and broken her wrist in mid-November, it wasn't until early January that Underwood revealed the severity of the stumble. "There is also another part of the story that I haven't been ready to talk about since I have still been living it and there has been much uncertainty as to how things will end up. It's crazy how a freak random accident can change your life," she wrote in a letter to her fan club at the time, according to People.

"In addition to breaking my wrist, I somehow managed to injure my face as well. I'll spare you the gruesome details, but when I came out of surgery the night of my fall, the doctor told Mike that he had put between 40 and 50 stitches in." She added that she's "not quite looking the same" since the surgery, but that she's looking forward to getting back on her feet this year. "I am determined to make 2018 amazing and I want to share things with you along the way. And when I am ready to get in front of a camera, I want you all to understand why I might look a bit different," she wrote.

Just a few days before sending that letter, Underwood shared a selfie on Instagram in which most of her face was covered by a scarf, and until this weekend's post, she had only uploaded throwback photos and shots in which she's facing away from the camera. However, shortly after she sent the message to her fan club, a photo she took with a fan in mid-December resurfaced. She looks as gorgeous as ever, and though it's understandable she's having a rough time after such a trauma, her fans are totally right with all their supportive comments.
