Lebanon's army is bolstering its presence in the south of the country

Lebanese army troops patrol the main road in Qasmiye near the southern port city of Tyre, on November 27.

The Lebanese army has begun reinforcing its presence in the south of the country, it said in a statement Wednesday, following the implementation of the ceasefire deal between Israel and Hezbollah.

Lebanon shares its southern border with Israel. The new ceasefire agreement stipulates that Israel must withdraw all its forces from southern Lebanon, and that the only armed groups present south of the region’s Litani river should be the Lebanese military and UN peacekeeping forces.

“The army has begun reinforcing its deployment in the South Litani sector and extending the authority of the state in coordination with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL),” the Army Command statement said.
