Journalist Fatima Manji has become a much-loved broadcaster by fans but she has now decided to walk away from the show for good.

Confirming the decision this morning, she said:

Uh hum. News of my own: I’ve decided to leave @Channel4News.

"I’ll miss the madness of news and feedback from viewers here, but after twelve(!) years, it’s time for new adventures…"

Faitma made headlines when she became the first hijab-wearing TV newsreader in the UK in March 2016.

The news left her fans and friends devastated as they flocked to share their messages of support and gratitude to the star.

One said: "Oh wow Fatima, will hugely miss you on TV and in the building, but wish you all the best for the next chapter xxx."

Before another heartwarmingly penned: "Fatima. You've been a trailblazer and you will be missed. Good luck with whatever you do next."

As another went on to add to the star: "Well done on all you have achieved, you will be missed."

"Will missing seeing you on Ch4!!! Good luck with whatever’s next," penned a fourth before someone else added: "You were solid… and will be missed. Good luck with whatever you do next."

Before joining Channel 4, Fatima started out by working with the BBC under a trainee programme.

She based herself with Radio Cambridge before being quickly signed on as a reporter and studio presenter for BBC Look East.

Across the course of her career, Fatima also picked up plenty of awards and nominations.

In 2015 she was a finalist in the Young Journalist of the Year contest as well as being recognised by the Words by Women Awards for her role in female-led journalism.

Her fellow co-presenters include show icon Krishnan Guru-Murthy, Matt Frei, Cathy Newman and Jackie Long.
