A Seething rapidly spreading fire ejected on the Spanish island of La Palma today - igniting a mass clearing of panicked occupants.

The Canary Islands Government has given a Level 2 crisis ready as firemen fight the seething hellfire.

Stunning film showed smoke surging from a forested region on a slope, spreading towards homes and vehicles.

No less than 11 houses have been obliterated by the blazes up to this point, Fernando Clavijo, leader of the Canary Islands said.

"The quantity of individuals who should be emptied could reach 1,000," Clavijo told correspondents.

Four choppers and four firefighting units are on the ground hustling to manage the fire on the island.
