House hunters slam one-room ‘tomb’ on market for £200 a month in Oldham

HOUSE hunters have slammed a one-room "tomb" on the market for £200-a-month.

The minuscule home was listed on Facebook marketplace, and described as a "one room garden home".

But people viewing the Oldham property questioned if it would be legal to live in - with barely any room to move about.

The majority of the space in the narrow room is taken up by a grey sofa that doubles up as a bed.

There doesn't appear to be any kitchen facilities, but there is a small en-suite with a shower, sink and loo.

It was advertised by a private landlord and is listed as: “Private one room garden home en-suite with WiFi and including all bills.”

There is no door between the living quarters and the "en-suite" bathroom and a small chemical toilet sits right at the top of the bed, although it does have it's own letterbox.

According to the seller's description, the property is: “Newly modern built and private.

“It has onsite CCTV and private parking right outside the property.

'TOMB'

“One room with an en-suite shower, sink and toilet with hot/cold water.

“Comes with a new grey velvet double sofa bed.

“Electric heating, free superfast WiFi, Large LED smart TV with YouTube, Netflix and more.”

Images were shared on Twitter of the small home, with one person writing: “Lovely shed/tomb for rent. Includes horrifying festival style Portaloo.

“How is this legal, f***** grim.”

Another said: “That toilet is a £50 chemical porta potty you have to empty out. The stench would be abominable.” And one posted: “Well it won’t be legal, but landlords be landlording.”

A spokesperson for Oldham Council said: “We are aware of the issue and our enforcement officers are investigating.

“So called ‘beds in sheds’ will not be tolerated in Oldham and we will use all powers available to us to protect our residents from illegal and sub-standard housing.”
