That's quackers! Thousands of swooping starlings form the shape of a DUCK in the sky

  • Hannah Farah, 31, captured the footage at an RSPB nature reserve in Castleford

  • She said witnessing the birds was better than going to a fireworks display This is the spectacular moment thousands of starlings get their ducks in a row - coming together to form an incredibly clear bird shape in the sky.

The mesmerising mumuration saw thousands of starlings twist and turn in formation before shape-shifting to form the silhouette of a duck.

The once-in-a-lifetime spectacle was captured by Hannah Farah, who was visiting Fairburn Ings RSPB Nature Reserve, near Castleford, West Yorkshire, with her father, Peter Lau, and her children, nine-year-old Sonny and ten-year-old Kinza. This murmuration of starlings was filmed at the Fairburn Ings RSPB Nature Reserve, just outside Castleford, West Yorkshire, by midwife Hannah Farah

The 31-year-old midwife, from Shipley, West Yorkshire, said: 'I had never seen a murmuration before, so it was pretty spectacular.

'It was amazing and so clear. Unbelievable really.

'I said to my dad at the time it was better than watching a firework display.'

Speaking of his grandchildren, Ms Farah's father Mr Lau added: 'They were very impressed at what grandad had taken then to see and they will never forget what tey saw.Share

'None had ever seen a starling murmuration so I was keen that they saw one and had a memorable experience.

'It's a well known location for a starling murmuration this time of year.

'The starlings fly in and grow in numbers from Asia and Africa.

'The numbers gathering at Fairburn Ings will be in the region of 180,000 when it peaks.'

Earlier this month, thousands of starlings formed the shape of a Christmas stocking over Halifax, West Yorkshire.
