The group of youths fled the scene before officers arrived, police said.

'I want to just praise the bystanders; there were three bystanders performing first aid before the ambulance arrived and they did an outstanding job in controlling the bleeding,' NSW Ambulance Chief Inspector Brian Parsell told 2GB.

A crime scene has since been established as officers from Blacktown Police Area Command commence an investigation into the matter.
