A beach quarantine break is making waves.
One Hawaii woman has been busted for violating a mandatory two-week quarantine for all travelers to the islands, reported The Associated Press on Wednesday.
The Honolulu culprit, identified as Patricia Pian, becomes the first returning Aloha State resident to be arrested for not quarantining, claimed the Hawaii COVID-19 Joint Information Center.
Witnesses spotted the 48-year-old woman swimming in the Pacific Ocean mere hours after her May 31 return from San Diego, said a coronavirus official.

“She was also sunbathing with her husband and walking their dog,” according to a statement put forth by the state.

Pian was arrested Tuesday in her Waikiki condo building and charged with violating quarantine. Her bail was set at $2,000.

In late March, Hawaii Gov. David Ige ordered the quarantine in a comprehensive attempt to hinder the COVID-19 outbreak within the state.

Although the coronavirus can cause mild to moderate symptoms — such as cough, fever and diarrhea — in healthy and young people, it can be potentially lethal to older adults and those with existing health problems.

Ige plans to extend the quarantine into at least July, according to The AP.

Returning residents and tourists arriving to Hawaii are strictly forbidden from leaving their quarantine locales except for medical emergencies, and some tourists have been cited for ignoring the quarantine.

Approximately 4,600 tourists visited Hawaii in April, down a staggering 99.5% from the same month in 2019, according to the Hawaii Tourism Authority.

The state has recorded 670 coronavirus cases so far with 17 confirmed deaths, according to health tracker Johns Hopkins University.
