President Trump’s surprise April announcement that he would give the commencement speech at West Point raised eyebrows from public health experts, who questioned the wisdom of bringing so many students back from around the country to one of the hotspots of coronavirus, the New York area.
Critics of that decision may be even more concerned now, as according to a report from USA Today, the Army has confirmed 16 cases of coronavirus among West Point cadets who have returned to campus for the June 13 speech.
However, West Point officials believe that the commencement can still be held safely. Those 16 are a small percentage of the approximately 850 total cadets on campus last week, though an additional 200 were set to arrive this past weekend.
The report notes, also, that there have also been an additional 71 cases of coronavirus since March among the roughly 5,000 faculty, staff, and civilians at West Point, almost all of whom have recovered. But the school’s seniors maintain social distancing, wear masks and undergo regular temperature checks.
“I’m very, very confident in the resources we have here, both medical and administrative — how we’re taking care of them,” West Point superintendent Darryl Williams told USA Today.

  1. Correction! 16 West Point grass text positive for random genetic material because Covid-19 HAS NEVER BEEN ISOLATED! Also, just test them tomorrow and they will be fine since this bogus test has a false positive rate of 80%.
