Frank Bielec, a designer who appeared on the popular decorating reality show “Trading Spaces” has died at age 72.
Bielec died in a Houston hospital on Friday, a day after suffering a heart attack, his wife, Judy, told TMZ.
The beloved designer appeared on every season of the “Trading Spaces,” when the show ran on TLC from 2000 to 2008. He later participated in a 2018 revival, which currently airs on the Discovery Channel.
Tributes from fans and fellow designers took over social media timelines, as news of Bielec’s sudden death broke.
“We will miss and remember him fondly, his quirky style and wonderful sense of humor. We share our love and condolences with the entire Bielec family at this difficult time,” a message shared Saturday on the “Trading Spaces” official Facebook account reads.
Co-star Ty Pennington, a carpenter on the show, took to Twitter to celebrate the life one of the best “humans I’ve had the good fortune to call friend.”
Vern Yip, another “Trading Spaces” designer, wrote, “Lovely Frank Bielec passed away today from complications following a heart attack. Funny, wise, nice, and talented, he always lent perspective and levity to every situation. Thanks you for always being kind to me. I will miss you dearly friend.”
“A sad day for the TLC family as we learn of the passing of beloved Trading Spaces designer Frank Bielec,” the network tweeted. “We will miss and remember him fondly, his quirky style and wonderful sense of humor. We share our love and condolences with the entire Bielec family at this difficult time."
