Police on Thursday charged a man they say opened fire on a rival in Queens and was later caught with a fake explosive in his car.
Rene Quiaoit, 37, of Queens if facing attempted murder and multiple weapon, drugs and assault charges for the Wednesday afternoon clash on Midland Parkway near Dalny Road in Jamaica.
Police said Quiaoit opened fire on a 40-year-old man near the corner, then jumped into his car and fled the scene.
A description of the car was broadcast over police radios and a short time later cops stopped Quiaoit’s vehicle about a mile and 1/2 away at the corner of 167th St. and 76th Ave. in Hillcrest.
When cops approached the car, they saw what appeared to be a grenade sitting in the door’s storage sleeve. Police cordoned off the car until the NYPD Bomb Squad could arrive and investigate.
The Bomb Squad determined the object was a movie prop, officials said.
