Time for some coronavirus problems in America.
Chris Christie bluntly suggested the country should get used to a much higher death toll from the pandemic, asking if it’s worth trying to save lives by keeping businesses shut down longer.
“Everybody wants to save every life they can — but the question is, towards what end, ultimately?” Christie told CNN. “Are there ways that we can... thread the middle here to allow (that) there are going to be deaths no matter what?”
The plainspoken former New Jersey governor and GOP presidential wannabe said states should reopen their economies because the cost will be worse than the spiraling death toll.
“We’ve got to let some of these folks get back to work, because if we don’t, we’re going to destroy the American way of life in these families — and it will be years and years before we can recover,” Christie said.
Christie’s tone deaf remarks came as a closely watched model dramatically increased its predicted death toll to more than 130,000 as states move quickly to roll back social distancing rules.
He compared reopening the economy to fighting for freedom in World War II, suggesting that maintaining economic shutdown would be an un-American betrayal.

“We have to stand up for the American way of life,” Christie said.

Mayor de Blasio pushed back hard against Christie, calling his remarks “unconscionable.”

“We need to save every life we can save and that’s an American value,” Hizzoner said on MSNBC.

Christie infamously left office amid abysmal poll numbers after he was entangled in the Bridgegate scandal in which he ordered a traffic-snarling experiment to punish the mayor of Ft. Lee for refusing to endorse his reelection.

He also sparked negative headlines when he headed to a sun-splashed Jersey Shore beach after he ordered beaches shut to regular people amid a government shut down.
