The first lady wants you to wear a mask to help beat coronavirus. Based on her public service announcement, it appears that it’s a case of “do what I say and not as I do" as she doesn’t put on face protection.
Melania Trump stars in a new anti-pandemic PSA video that warns Americans to wear a mask in public as the contagion continues to ravage the country.
“The CDC ... recommend(s) people wear cloth face coverings in public settings where social distancing measures can be difficult to maintain,” FLOTUS wrote on Twitter.
The ex-model, who turns 50 on April 26, holds a mask during the 30-second video, which appears to have been filmed at the White House. But she pointedly does not actually put it on.
The use of masks amid the pandemic has become a touchy subject for the first family.
President Trump says he has no problem with the guidance and supports wearing masks on a voluntary basis. But he has not appeared in public wearing one, perhaps in a nod to his #MAGA supporters, some of whom continue to downplay the seriousness of the pandemic.
He mentioned at a press conference that Melania Trump “feels very strongly” about the use of masks.
Democrat Joe Biden, who will square off against Trump in November, says he would wear a mask if he appears in public.
