‘Oh, you don’t think you’re fat?’: Shocking moment church leader tells teenager she's too 'chubby' to wear shorts during choir practice – as stars including plus size model Tess Holliday tell her to 'wear what the hell you want'

  • Jenna, from Swansboro, North Carolina, filmed the confrontation in a bathroom
  • She was told by the woman, Bonnie Sue, that she was 'too chubby' for shorts
  • Jenna had been mid-way through choir practice when she was approached
A young girl was left sobbing when she was confronted by a church leader who followed her into a bathroom to tell her she was too fat to wear shorts.
The encounter, during choir practice at the Swansboro United Methodist Church in North Carolina, was filmed by Jenna who was told her clothes were not 'appropriate' for a 'chubby girl'.
Bonnie Sue, the older woman, can be heard saying that another girl at their church was also 'chubby' but wore a dress that 'comes to about the top of her knees' that was 'appropriate'.
After the incident Jenna posted a tweet saying she had been in the bathroom to take a call with about a family member who is in hospital with a brain aneurysm.
She also revealed she has previously been in therapy for suicide and suffers from depression.
Since posting the video on twitter, Jenna has been inundated with support from celebrities including plus-size model Tess Holliday and comedian Ashley Nicole Black.
When Jenna asks 'so you're calling me fat', Bonnie Sue says 'oh you don't think you are?' As Jenna bursts in to tears she begins to defend herself saying 'I love who I am. Get out of my face'
Tess Holliday said: 'You can wear whatever the hell you want. I’m sorry this happened to you.'
And Ashley Nicole Black added: 'I’m so hurt and angry on your behalf right now! I’m so sorry this happened, but so happy you stood up for yourself. You’re beautiful and it’s so cool that you sing at church!!'
Shocking footage shot on her camera phone shows Jenna asking: 'So you're calling me fat'
Bonnie Sue replies: 'Oh, you don't think you are?'
As Jenna bursts in to tears she begins to defend herself saying: 'I love who I am. Get out of my face.'
Bonnie Sue then says: 'I don't have to and don't swear at me like that.'
And when Jenna replies 'I don't give a s**t' she says: 'I do. That's your problem. You don't give a s**t. Don't come back on that stage with those shorts on.'
Jenna had gone in to the bathroom during a break in choir practice at her church when Bonnie Sue followed her inside.
The woman, whose name is Bonnie Sue, told Jenna another girl at their church was also 'chubby'She wore a dress that 'comes to about the top of her knees' and was therefore 'appropriate'
'Who are you to tell me what I am supposed to do. No, get the f*** out of my face. Get out. I am not two years old and I can do what I want,' she tells Bonnie-Sue.
'I have been recording this entire time. And I am never coming back to this church because you are so disrespectful. So disrespectful.'
As Bonnie Sue makes her way out of the bathroom she is met by Jenna's parents, who heard her shouting and wanted to know what had happened.
Before Bonnie Sue can say anything, Jenna tells them: 'She called me fat.'
As her father tells her to go back inside the bathroom the only defence Bonnie Sue has is 'she's in there swearing'.
In a separate post Jenna said: 'My pastor has said she will never be able to be on any sort of committee/any leadership role ever again.
Jenna also posted pictures of the outfit she was wearing alongside the video. Ironically her jumper had the definition of the word Agape written on it
Jenna captioned the images: 'Here is the outfit I was wearing that she attacked me... also please read my shirt because what she did was not agapé love'
In a separate post Jenna said: 'My pastor has said she will never be able to be on any sort of committee / any leadership role ever again'Jenna says: 'I forgot to mention that she is a leader in our church'
Also my mother bought me these shorts and she would never let me out of the house, let alone to church, in booty shorts.
'I am absolutely astonished someone can have this much hate in heir heart.
'Luckily I was recording her so that my pastor can see the real side to her because she loves to be two-faced and act all holy.'
Jenna later told her followers she had been in the bathroom to take a call about a sick relative.
'I just want to say that I know I am not perfect!!!,' she tweeted. 'But I would never attack someone and tear someone down like what she did to me.... thank God she said it to me and honestly and not to some who is suicidal/'
'Because if she would have said that to me two years ago when I was in therapy for suicide... I honestly don’t think I would be here today... I suffer with depression, anxiety, and ADD, and I can be very impulsive but what she did was straight up rude.
Jenna later tweeted revealing she suffers from depression and was in the bathroom to take a call about a sick relative
'Something I did not say originally is why I went to the bathroom. I currently have a family member in the hospital with a brain aneurysm and I was checking to see if there were any updates, she caught me a very vulnerable time.'
Social media users were quick to ask Jenna to keep them updated with what happens to Bonnie Sue.
Jenna said: 'I’m meeting with the pastors soon to talk with them again and see what has been said and done. I will update you guys and let you know what’s happening to her.
'My mother almost caught a charge. My parents could hear me screaming and came running cause they knew it was me.
'The guy at the end of the video was my dad, he was trying to get me out of there.'
Jenna also posted pictures of the outfit she was wearing alongside the video. Ironically her jumper had the definition of the word Agape written on it.
It reads: 'God's unconditional and unending love.'
Jenna captioned the images: 'Here is the outfit I was wearing that she attacked me... also please read my shirt because what she did was not agapé love.'

  4. This is a CHURCH....she should wear appropriate clothing....not looking like a streetwalker who lost her way!!!! And singing in a choir no less. I would NEVER wear that horrendous outfit to church period...whether services were on or just choir practice. This shows how self centered and selfish this bitch is. And totally DISRESPECTFUL to the church itself. Go home and join your local Communist club and flaunt your fat ass all over them instead.
